Fool's Gold

Darn! Thought I hit pay dirt when I found the fragment of the SH3-SH2 domains of the BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase protein, and I happily titled all the graphics and diagrams as "xxx of CMLxxx".

Did more search on the NCBI and realised that that "gold" is just part of the ABL protein! Then again, it is probably playing a part in the BCR-ABL fused protein.

Sigh.. another night going down the hill. =(

Haha... ya. Erm, BCR-ABL is actually one of the major constituents in the excessive proliferation of cells, each of which potentially containing that BCR-ABL.

However, these cells are still able to differentiate into normal read/white/platelet cells, so that is ok.

It's however, the actions of parts of the BCR-ABL protein, one of which is the tyrosine kinase (TK), which answers ok to all other protein's requests like:

1. Should I multiply? (TK: Yes)
2. Should I die? (TK: Please go ahead)
3. Should I just stop work? (TK: No, you continue working)

So, eventually, some *other* forms of mutation may take place, leading to accumulation of improperly differentiated cells. Hence, possibly leading to an increase in immature white blood cells - leukemia. =)

Forgot to add that SH3-SH2 is the one that turns off regulation for TK, hence turning on TK all the time. =)
