On a Saturday...

Most Noteworthy Event (henceforth MNE) of the day 20051026
Hmm... thinking of posting most noteworthy event of days starting from today. It could be anything. So.. here goes:Someone drank coffee and puked really badly in the toilet
Additional discount for ladies' wear
Hmm... there's a shop tucked away in Shaw Center (the one with the Lido cinema) at the second story at the back (i.e. just "on top of" Mc Donald's) which is giving *ADDITIONAL DISCOUNT* if you mention my name. Heh heh...So, instead of not getting a single discount, you get not 5, not 10, not even 15% discount. You get 25% discount! Woohoo! And it's not even marked up 25% from the original price. It's pure 25% full fledge discount. =)
So, it's really:
Original price - 25%
And NOT
(Original price + 25%) - 25% or something to this extend.
Kinda rare for people to give discounts to people who mention my name. Haha.. what an honour. Do check it out, ya? =)
Blogger Gan's hatred
Read the papers this morning about Blogger Gan's conviction. If I take his mitigation in all of its glory, I would have understood his hatred towards the Malay community.
However, I felt that this is not, I repeat, this is NOT a Malay thing. It could have been a Chinese couple, it could have been an Indian couple, it could also have been an Almighty Caucasian couple. It just happened to be a Malay couple.
Perhaps the Malay couple was really rushing for something, perhaps they might be trying to catch a flight. Perhaps they were rushing to the hospital as well. I won't know. And it really is their prerogative to give up their cab.
I mean, I could be flagging a cab after a 20 min wait and rushing for the exams. A couple comes up to me with a foaming baby. Would I give up my cab?

Fool's Gold
Darn! Thought I hit pay dirt when I found the fragment of the SH3-SH2 domains of the BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase protein, and I happily titled all the graphics and diagrams as "xxx of CMLxxx".Did more search on the NCBI and realised that that "gold" is just part of the ABL protein! Then again, it is probably playing a part in the BCR-ABL fused protein.
Sigh.. another night going down the hill. =(

40 year old virgin
Watched the virgin show with JY and YH today. It was a silly show... silly but hilarious. Then again, this show brought back certain things which are somewhat crucial to a person's upbringing - Virginity. Now, how does this affect us? If you bother to actually take a second and look around you, how many people out there above the age of 15 is still a virgin? None!

.
Okie... maybe that was too exaggerated. But seriously, movies like that creeps into the brains of the younger generation and starts to corrode their minds and telling them that it is no longer cool to be a virgin at, say 15.
Kinda tired and sleepy now. But just to illustrate the point about the sarcity of virgins in our society, if you happen to be reading this and are still a virgin, do leave a comment an let us do a virgin count. =) Let the truth speak for tself. ;-)
It's ok to be a virgin. =)

Registering @ The NCBI
After doing tremendously obscene amount of searches at the NCBI, I finally decided to just register (coz' I didn't realise that I could register). So I went into the registration page and did my stuffs... and to my utter horror, I realised that my de facto user id had been taken.I mean, it's really nothing surprising, but if you have a user id like iamreallyaguniang, then it's really amazing that someone could have taken your id!
Nonetheless, I decided that I should just give it a shot and try to login. Haha... and wala! I actually managed to login!
Then again, I seriously can't remember registering at the NCBI, especially when I have not used it before... at least not to the best of my knowledge. =)
PS: No, my user id really isn't iamreallyaguniang. =)

Origins Of Life...
Reading on the origins of life now... about meteorites from Mars landing on Earth and so on and so forth. There are actually many theories of life:
- God created Man
- Mars meteorites
- Organisms or eubacterias living in the hot core of Earth that got transported up onto the surface during a volcanic eruption
- Big Bang theory - some of my guy friends tell me that the big bang is every guy's favourite. Hmm... even the Christian ones. Shouldn't the Christian ones favour the God version more? =(
- Evolution from inorganic molecules to RNAs to life forms. Inorganic molecules are those that do not have a -C-C- bond - if you are interested, you may want to search "primordial soup"
But I have to say that the #3 and #5 are quite new to me. Hmm...

Of Projects and Assignments
Finally! It's over! It's finally over! Woohoo!Wait! Exams coming! Darn... =(
Actually, the project wasn't that bad, and as I got to know more of my classmates, the more I liked them! Haha.. this module was quite special in the sense that some of the students are actually from another course. Not surprising, since the school is encouraging Cross Faculty Modules, or CFM.
Wait... that's what Ann Yew Ass calls them. Ann Tee Yew calls them Prescribed Electives. Haha...
Then again, how can a core module for my course be a Prescribed Elective for others? So unfair right? So unfair to them coz' we actually depended on knowledge from other modules to scrape through this module... Haha... =)
Okie.. going back to books liao. Come to think of it, hadn't had the chance to read others' blogs. Sorry la. Exams coming. =(

Tremour in School
10:58amHmm... felt a strange tremour just now. It felt almost like an earthquake (not that I know how an Earthquake felt like), but everyone could hear a distinct "boom" and the walls and ceiling vibrated a little for about 1.5 seconds.
All of us just looked up from what we were doing, met each other in the eyes and gave a strange look to each other.
I hope it isn't another Earthquake, coz' it had already cost Pakistan a hefty cost. Not that I am afraid that Singapore might get an earthquake, but I just don't wish to see another disaster hitting another country again.
It's already as bad as it is. I just hope this will stop... =(
11:03am
Shucks! Just felt another one. A stronger one this time. I could actually feel it under my feel, and the tables definitely moved!
Oh man! This is not good... =(
11:15am
Heng ah.. (colloquial for "phew"). The tremours stopped. But I think it left a big "?" as to what happened that caused the whole school to tremour.

Foreign Students in Singapore
Was let off early from a tutorial today and saw the usual crowds of students studying and preparing for their exams (ya, mine too, soon). Then I realised something...It may seem obvious to a lot, but do you know that foreign students, especially our China couterparts actually put in a lot more effort into their studies? Not that Singaporeans don't, but for every reference book that we casually glance through and "absorb along the way", the China nationals have to occasionally look at their e-dictionary to find out the meanings of words.
I can imagine me going to Beijing University and studying chemistry in Chinese! Woohoo! That will be the day you will see me with, not 1, not 2, but 3 dictionaries! Yes, I am just being a Singaporean.
Oh, why 3? One to do a Chinese-Chinese explanation. If that fails, I will need a Chinese-English dictionary. So that's 2. As for the last one, an English-Chinese dictionary for good measure. =) Just in case the Chinese-English one translated wrongly. =P
About mammals, birds and their horny...
... beaks =)Extracted kindly from Energetics and Metabolism
" ... Mammals have various shapes of teeth, which serve different purposes. Some of the teeth types include incisors for gnawing, tusks for fighting and piercing, canines for tearing and piercing, and molars for grinding. Some gastropod mollusks have a radula, for tearing or grazing. Birds on the other hand, have horny beaks, which vary in shape and size according to the type of food they eat. The beak will capture the food which is then swallowed and passed into a crop for storage, and then on to the gizzard, which often contains small stones, for grinding... "
Scientists really don't make good writers, do they? =)
